I love it. Most of us is a user in social network but are we a smart user or a user without thinking. Who is having the last laugh, me and you or the website owner. Do you know that more social network site is dying. It's just not evenly distributed yet."
—William Gibson

Your/My attention data expoited by a bunch of idiot kids who are too young to know any better...and who, in turn, are being exploited by a bunch of oldsters well acquainted with 'the great game' of dog eat dog.

"Exploitation at the hands of the buisness class..." - P.R. Sarkar

Social Networking is PR hype. Means that those who wish to market to you now have all your data plus all your friends and their friends and their friends data with which to cloud your, now bullshit, life - with their inane mass produced 'product!' Social Networking is NON LIFE and insidiously 'product oriented' wherein YOU are the product being exploited to the max! Humanity ultimately will regurgitate this trash to the dust bins of history as the anti-social networking movement engeanders a new thirst for...the handshake, the kiss...

No wonder Ted Nelson left Cyberspace!

Re: There's no such thing as a "social network"

I think you are right this time

Re: There's no such thing as a "social network"

Hi,
I saw your post. Primates and other animals groom each other to forge social bonds. "Micro-socializing" might be a human analog of that.

Based on the the picture on slide #9 in that slide show, it looks like the presenter actually touched on this idea. But I think "Social Grooming" is a better phrase than "Ambient Intimacy." Gives the idea a broader context. =)

Re: There's no such thing as a "social network"

Typo "Enable to people to send messages to their friends" should be "Enable people to send messages to their friends."

Re: There's no such thing as a "social network"

The bad part is the criminal activities being staged on social networking sites in India. People are very liberal in sharing the personal details on scrap pages. I hate the so called social networking products. They are useless. I've discussed about their impacts at http://www.yemkay.com/?p=32

Re: There's no such thing as a "social network"

I have a tough time calling social networking sites "product". They are 100% reliant on people feeding the system for the system to really mean anything. Facebook's definition is actually more accurate. It isn't a product. The people are the product. Facebook is just a utility that enables the product.

Jim
http://softwarejim.blogspot...

Re: There's no such thing as a "social network"

Hi Paul,

for #13, what about "Ambient Intimacy" - http://www.slideshare.net/l...

and

#18.
